Although the big brake option was offered on Corvettes from '58-'62, '58 was the only year for the special ducting on the rear as well as the front brakes. The car has been meticulously restored and features reproduction Hilabrand pin drive wheels and aero headlight covers (the chrome bezels are included). This gave you special front and rear springs and shocks, heavier front stabilizer bar, quicker steering adaptor, metallic brakes, finned brake drums, fresh air ducting to the rear brakes, and air deflectors, aka Elephant Ears for the front brakes. But, what really sets it apart from the rest is the ultra-rare RPO 684 Heavy Duty Brake and Suspension option. This equipment makes it more than desirable as it is. This beautiful '58 has some interesting and very rare options in its own right! Ordered with the top-tier 283/290hp fuel injected small block engine, 4-speed manual transmission, hard top (only) and power windows. There were some pretty interesting ones to choose from none the less. And it still holds true today! Whether it be comfort items like power steering, power brakes. As a result, time has been good to this year Corvette and the desirability factor has increased, so have the values.Choices!! Variety!! Options!! Part of the fun of purchasing a new American car back in the day was what extra stuff you got to add to it! The powers that be at the Big Three (GM, Ford and Chrysler) prided themselves on giving consumers plenty of variety. And as the years went by, more people started to appreciate the "Gingerbread" that adorned the '58 Corvette. The hood featured a simulated louvered hood and two chrome trunk spears out back. The car was also longer and wider than the previous year. This was the first year for dual headlights. Wings here, tall fins there, chrome everywhere! And Corvette was not immune to this "treatmentâ€.In '58 everything was just a bit over the top. until finally, Corvette hit a peak so to speak in 1958. During this time span, the cars transitioned from a Roadster to an actual Convertible with roll-up windows.Subsequent years saw Corvette grow wider and longer, add a couple of headlights, more cubic inches along with more horsepower and more gears to shift. There were actually four different body changes for the C1. ![]() ![]() That year marked the end. of sorts for that particular body style. The beginning of the legend is always significant. But milestone years tend to be the most popular. And with over 65 years over Corvettes, there certainly is plenty to choose from.
